Some frequently asked questions

Who are we and what do we do?
Trafalgar Associates Ltd was established over 18 years ago as a business solutions company working in a wide range of business sectors. We are passionate about what we do and have many years experience of coaching and mentoring with an excellent track record of success. Laurence Conway is the Director of the Coaching and Mentoring Division, has an MBA from a leading business school and over 35 years management experience. We provide bespoke coaching and mentoring programmes aimed mainly at junior and middle management and our unique selling points are:
Coaching and Mentoring are provided on a one to one basis
The programme is tailored both for the company and the ind ividual manager
It is delivered by our Senior Director
The programme provides quantifiable and measurable results
It is aimed at junior and middle managers

Why this particular group?
We have identified from past experience that this is the group most in need of the programme and yet most of the tuition they receive is usually in the form of technical training. It is a target market not well served by this type of training and we have devised our programmes to meet this requirement. Usually this target group will have started their careers after leaving school or university and whilst they might be technically competent at what they do, they often need direction and guidance to enable them to become good managers.

What is the aim of the programme?
The programme is designed to give guidance to the individuals and enable them to become professional managers, preparing them for further progression in their careers, whilst at the same time delivering significant improvements in their present role and providing solutions to current and potential business issues.

What are the benefits?
Because the programme is tailored to the needs of each individual, you can expect improved performance leading to increased output, greater efficiency, improved team spirit and ultimately increases in the bottom line of the business. It also means that senior management can spend more time on directing and growing the business, and less time on supervising the junior and middle managers who will become more confident and capable individuals.

How do we do it?
By mentoring and coaching the individuals in their management skills and delivering a bespoke programme on a one to one basis. We continually undertake an evaluation of each stage of the programme and provide feedback both to the individual and their superior.

What does the programme involve?
We discuss the desired outcomes with both Senior Management as well as the individual to ensure all parties are on board. We then tailor the programme to meet the needs that have been identified. Milestones will be established and monitored to ensure the individual and programme remains on track. The programme may also include specific work related projects for the individual to undertake and these will be evaluated as part of the scheme and sometimes an external course may be recommended as part of the programme.

What will the individual learn?
They will learn how to deal with people at all levels – from superiors, colleagues, other team members and subordinates, customers, external partners, stakeholders etc. They will also learn to operate more effectively on a personal level – time management, prioritising workloads, delegation, using the strengths and skills of team members, teaching others, sharing knowledge and information and to lead and motivate their team. They will understand the benefits of ‘going the extra mile’, and also of networking with peers and colleagues both within and beyond the business to obtain a broader understanding of the outside world.

How much time is involved?
After the initial discussions and preparation of the programme, a typical follow up might be once a month with periodic telephone contact in between. The programme can be ongoing as milestones are achieved or can be for a specific period of time only.

What does it cost?
Surprisingly little - grants may also be available depending on the organisation. Once an initial discussion has taken place as to precisely what is required, we are able to prepare a formal costing and time scale for delivery. There are no hidden extras – we aim to offer a transparent service – ‘it does what it says on the tin.’
